Nebraska Hauntings
Ball Cemetery Ball Cemetery is an old graveyard in Springfield, Nebraska that is fairly isolated and that really doesn't have a very interesting history - except maybe for genealogists looking for dead relatives. Being the diligent researchers that we are, we kept digging, and lo and behold, we found genealogy message boards with all kinds of cool stuff related to this cemetery, and particularly its ghosts. One lady wrote that she had heard the rumors, discounted them, and went to look at the headstones anyway. Others have reported strange noises, talking, footsteps in the woods, and pictures of orbs and mists. Ball Cemetery is apparently accessible, but there are many "No Trespassing" signs - and several people write that there is some guy that runs out of the woods with a shotgun if he finds you there. On a more humorous note, as we researched this cemetery, we found a classic that wasn't really meant to be funny........but we went into hysterics.......clear your mind and read the next paragraph: "The cemetery is the resting place of mainly Sacks and Balls. Ball & Sack Cemetery is located at 17400 Cornish Road, Springfield, Nebraska.

There is no history of violence or sudden deaths connected to this cemetery that we are aware of, and at first, we nearly discounted it as a valid haunting.
She related that the cemetery is extremely dark and creepy because of the old, towering trees, and even on the brightest days it is so dark it feels like midnight.
Most who visit report a vague "spooky" feeling in the cemetery which is undoubtedly amplified at night.
The police also patrol the area frequently, so go there at your own risk, and do it during the day - the genealogists manage to get in somehow...but however you do it, be respectful.
My Great Grandmother was a Ball.
Her father was a Ball and her mother a Sack."
Be careful out there, and if anyone knows who gives permission to get into the site for respectful investigation, please message us via the message board or by email!
