In the West Fjords like everywhere

else

The Reverend Baldur from Vatnsfjordur once

chaired a meeting at Reykjanes by Djup. A lady

from some ministry in Reykjavik was present and

treated the locals to a long speech during which

she droned on and on with no end in sight and

the people had no clear idea what she was talking

about. The chairman had walked several rounds

of the auditorium as he usually did at gatherings,

especially in his younger years. At such times he

often puts on sunglasses and then removes them

again immediately. On this occasion he finally

grew tired of the interminable speech and

interrupted the ministerial Amazon with the

following words:

"Time passes here in the West Fjords, my dear,

just like everywhere else."

The lady’s speech did not go on for much

longer in that meeting.
