This branch of fishing was usually a fickle and rapidly changing business. One moment people were filthy rich and the next they were as good as penniless, and then they were at the mercy of bank managers who could not always be relied upon to be friendly. One day during a period of prosperity Bodvar and Saemundur ran into each other in the streets of Isafjordur, and got to talking and contemplating the human condition. "Surely one must try to ensure that something of one’s work remains when one departs this world?", asked Saemundur, thinking of all the millions of krónur that were at his disposal that day. "That doesn’t worry me", replied Bodvar. "It’s all the same to me whe the r I ’m the poorest or the richest stiff in the cemetery." Bodvar Sveinbjornsson.
