There´s great anticipation in the air on the junior-college´s lodgings at Laugarvatn, because of the intended Beat-ball in the evening.
Svenni, Gudjon, Gardar and Holmi have put on their finer dancing clothes already in the middle of this Saturday; clean jeans and shirts and assembled in the bedroom of the firstnamed and have started drinking strong alcohol mixed with coke.
From the room-owner´s travel- phonograph come the tones of
scratched LP´s with either Neil Young or The Rolling Stones.
-Can´t you play any proper music, Svenni, Gardar inquires being quite bored listening to the monotonous rhythm of Svenni´s favourite music.
-Do you have anything better, Sveinn replies grown a bit drunk; light and happy.
- Gardar, stop being a bore, Holmi´s unusual voice rather has an exciting effect on those who listen.
Gudjon who´s long since become bored up to his neck hearing that same music through the wall, when he´s trying his best reading his school-books in the next room, is agreeing with the other disappointed lad.
-Why don´t you just pop over to fetch your stereo, pointing his words towards Gardar who agrees and leaves the room hurriedly.
When returning he walks into Bjorn and Loki who are carrying the empty game-bag and the cook´s shotgun.
In Gardar´s opinion they look a little dull and tired, where they´re stalking into the illuminated corridor and so he mentiones it to them, where he´s stalking the opposite way carrying
simultaneously two speakers, an amplifer and a tape deck.
-You look like shit, guys!
-Oh Bjorn moans, we were looking for ptarmigans on the moors, and obviously isn´t eager to discuss the journey any more stalking towards his bedroom.
-Loki, please help me to carry my load to Svenni.
-Have you already started the party Loki blows like a grampus when he takes a load of his friend by putting the speakers under his arms.
-Have you returned already, Holmi says with a jolly voice, when Loki appears in the doorway and are you going too shoot us your innocent schoolchums he keeps on squeaking supposedly defending himself with his hands.
In a short while the tired and disappointed traveller remembers the gun still hanging down by his back.
He puts down the speakers and takes off the
gun.
Then he sits down between Gudjon and Holmi, on Svenni´s bed, which has been made in the occasion and he had put the sheets in special built-in drawers under the bed.
-Be my guest, offers the carefree and slightly drunk boy who´s sitting by his desk and has according to the generosity which comes so natural to him decided to cheer up the new guest with a coctail of aquavitae and coke.
-Thank you, Svenni. I´m really in need for this drink, he says
wholeheartedly and takes a large sip. Loki instantly feels the refreshing influence of the honeywine.
-What ever happened in those caves, Gardar questions, from where he´s plugging and adjusting his equipment on the floor, while recalling the wondering face on the two tavellers out in the corridor.
-I just can´t remember anything about what I and Bjorn were doing up there in the mountains.
The refreshing influence from the coctail start to disappear,
when he tries to think back and so takes another sip.
Do you know what we were doing up there?
-I´m afraid we do, Holmi replies with a wise look. You´ve spoken of nothing else but this cave-journey the previous week.
-You don´t say, were we going to look at them caves Sigmar was reading about, Loki says feeling a bit refreshed when he starts to recollect the remarkable class with teacher Olafur. I do find it more than a little peculiar, that neither of us remembers anything concerning this cave-trip, he adds to his case in an earnest tone.
-Where´s Simmi, Loki? Didn´t he go along with you as he was aiming at, Gardar inquires finding it a little suspicious not seeing him out in the corridor with the others.
The question puzzles Loki, for he doesn´t recall Simmi being with them in the journey, despite the fact of him being its main encourager.
-I find it difficult to believe, that you´ve forgotten and left the lad up there, Guđjón says being as responsible as always. I´m going to check whether he´s in his room, he announces before he leaves the party of not so worried friends.
-He must be in his bed as he´s used to, but there´s some worry in Loki´s voice, where he´s waiting impatiently for Gudjon´s return.
No sure he´s OK mumbles the overtensed youngster.
