-Where´s Ingvar, Loki is wondering, where the threesome are standing warmly clothed outside of Kos ready for the cave-journey.
-He put a hole in his head last night, and won´t be able to come along, Sigmar announces obviously not eager to discuss it any further, for he´s already started on a walking tour, which will come to an unsuspecting end.
The sky´s still completely dark when they start following the road, take a turn up the Gljábakka- road, by the old barn which has been in the slope
longer than the eldest can remember. They´re happy to see how clear of snow the road seems to be.
Even when they´ve reached up on the moor the road stands up from the layers of snow in the lava of Gljabakki, but because of the frost the snow that has gathered in hollows of the road is hard and easy
for walking. After an hour´s trudge in the highlands they´ve started to blow and automatically they slow down.
-This is more difficult than I´d ever thought, Simmi being very short of breath moans. How far did teacher Olafur say it was.
-Well, he didn´t say anything about the distance, Bjorn claims as he takes a halt to catch his breath in the thin atmosphere, but I believe I´ve sometime heard that it´s approximately six kilometers.
-Then we should´ve reached our destination, Loki adds and points his flashlight all around them. He´s not able to spot the grassy fields, that were supposed to distinguish the environment had they reached their
destination. Shall we rest us here in the lava until day breaks, proposes the light-bearer. I haven´t the slightest idea where we are. He points the torch around them until he notices a piece of green turf. Follow me boys!
He leads and takes a seat on a mossy lava rock by the road. His companions follow and join him on the rock.
Well, Simmi! Let´s check what you have in the rucksack. The cook had been so considerate to lend them his game-bag after putting in it delicious
foodstuff in plastic containers and hot cocoa in three thermos bottles the night before. They are quite hungry after the heavy walking and none of them had eaten any breakfast rather than young people usually do.
The carrier hands them a bottle each.
What a good fellow this cook must be, Loki says quite respectfully and hurries up screwing off the plug before he takes a generous draught.
Oy bara!! What kind of filth is this and he spits his cocoa straight into the rough lava.
-This is just ordinary cocoa like we always get in the mess, Simmi says apologetically, and tastes his drink. There´s nothing wrong with mine he
continues and offers Loki a taste. -This is like cocoa is supposed to be, he approves and pours down the cocoa in his bottlle. Instantly a disgusting stench surrounds them, thus making
them shudder. -My drink´s OK, Bjorn accedes with Simmi and gives a disappointed Loki a sip. Have a sip, my dear friend.
-I really can´t comprehend what´s happened, for I witnessed the cook scoop out of the pot.
-There´s no need to worry, Simmi. We aren´t exactly very far from aid whenever and if thirst starts bugging me, the one without a drink tries to
minimize the problem. When they´d been waiting for daybreak endlessly, Bjorn is startled looking at his self-luminous watch: -Strakar (boys)! Something´s not as it should be. According to the clock it´s ten o´clock and the sun is not up yet.
They look at theirs for confirmation and compare them.
I find this very peculiar, Bjorn states amasingly. Acknowledge that all the pointers are exactly the same.
They move their left hands together and Loki illuminates when they compare.
The three pairs of pointers show exactly one minute to ten and even the ones that show the seconds are the same.
- So what, Simmi says, isn´t it one of these so-called coincidences.
-No, I find that hard to believe, the earthbound Bjorn enlightens them always being so very accurate in everything he does, except when his watch, which he always has on his wrist, is on the line. Because this is a very old watch my grandfather used to own and I only bear for kicks. Most of the time it is out of order.
-Didn´t you set it right this morning before we took off. Loki doesn´t want to believe that anything spooky´s going on.
-No, I haven´t touched it in many days, Bjorn denies and puts up his very special mathematical look just as he always does when he goes into heavy
thinking. For a while there´s total silence, until Sigmar breaks it in a humorous tone.
-Well, I don´t find it at random, that Mr. Briem was telling the truth, when he was telling us that whenever he walks the heath he has the instinct that something spooky´s keeping an eye on him. I must admit that since I awoke this morning, I´ve had a feeling something´s following me.
Bjorn knicks his head. -Yes, I´ve had a similar feeling and in addition there´s grandfather´s clock. I am...
-And Loki´s cocoa, Sigmar adds abscent-minded.
-What´s bothering you guys, Loki´s hasty voice startles his companions, do you really believe in ghosts? But he doesn´t want to enlighten them whom he thinks is probably behind these wonders, maybe because he himself finds it quite lunatic. If he´s right, then he´s certain that Jon´s having a good time, where he´s surveilling them from his home in Keflavik.
How does he manage this, Loki says to himself with a low voice, which shows some admiration. -Ha, who, the others inquire being somewhat amazed about their friend´s question.
-Oh it´s nothing, Loki states, but in vain.
-Do you know something we don´t, they ask a bit more lighthearted, for they feel just as a burden has been lifted off of them. They obviously expect Loki of having done something, because he´s reknown for his teasing and practical jokes.
How did you do it?
-You´re mistaking, because I have had nothing to do with what has been happening, states the alleged trickster, but I suspect a certain guy who´s located in Keflavik at this moment....
-Wha..., Keflavik, Bjorn asks feeling the case somehow related to himself. This can hardly be controlled by someone in.....
-Keflavik, Bjorn my friend Loki carries on. Then he reflects his recent dealings with Jon Jonsson, an old scoolmate and enemy in Keflavik.
-I can hardly belief that Jon has these abilities, Bjorn states and shakes his big head when he brushes up his own dealings with this boy who used to be quite ordinary the winter of 1970-71 when they sat side by side in the graduation-class of the junior- high school back home.
-Bjorn, I´m telling you the truth that I´ve witnessed it myself, that he has some kind of telepath-ability and is able to travel outside his own body.
Anna on the Telephone-station called it soul- travelling.
-Soul-travelling or bed-travelling, Sigmar interrupts their conversation light-heartedly, but what about our cave-travelling. I propose that
we wait an hour yet for the the sun...
