Violet had barely arrived home when the phone rang. It was Solla friend.

"Just let me take off my coat," said Violet and let Solla friend wait a while. Before picking up the phone again, she went into the kitchen and got a glass of sherry.

"Well, what did he say?" asked Solla friend blatantly curious.

Violet had begun to smile, and when she began to talk, she could not help laughing a little. "He lectured me," she said.

    "About what?"

"Ah, there you go," she said stifling a laugh. "He said I was a mammal."

    "He said what?"

    "You heard me."

Then they laughed and had trouble starting the conversation again. "Is this maybe some nonsense?" asked Solla friend.

Violet dried her eyes and sipped the sherry. "No, I don't think so. I'm going to continue," she said.

"Was he trying something funny with you?" asked Solla friend.

"No, not at all," said Violet forcibly. A little later they finished the conversation.

After John had listened to and watched the evening news on the radio and the television, Violet went over to him, tugged at him and said: "John, do you want to come and love your little mammal?" He pressed her to him; then they sat down, and she told him about her conversation with Brandur Brandsson.

It surprised Violet a little how positive John was about Brandur Brandsson's theories, if they could be called that. It also surprised John how positive Violet was in their love-making later that night. John, in fact, started to wonder what really had happened. On the other hand, he saw no reason to ask Violet more questions for fear of undoing the treatment's results.
