Simon Sörenson, the elder, was usually called Simon Sör*. He had been a respected farmer, sexton and District Council Chairman. His wife, Peace, was very religious and had been in the Salvation Army when she was younger and living in Reykjavik. Peace was short and wore the national costume as was common then.

She had hair black as obsidian which she wore in a bun in back. The year she and Simon Sör met, Peace had become pregnant by another man. Shortly after the child was born, she married Simon Sör and moved to the North with him where he had lived unmarried for two years.

The child, on the other hand, had stayed in Reykjavik in the foster care of its father's family.

During the trial at the Reykjavik Iron Smithy, Speedy Simon mentioned an event when he was young that he believed had an immediate and lasting impact on his life. As Speedy Simon mentioned in his testimony, he was eight when this happened.
