Dear Olafur Thor Eiríksson,
I refer to our earlier correspondence about your project.
Nordbok grants project and translation funding through two separate support schemes, with regular application dates.
As mentioned earlier, there is only one application deadline a year for project funding, the next application deadline being April 1, 2005.
No applications will be treated until after this date, and all applications must be written on Nordbok's application form.
You also mention in your e-mail that you would like to have your books translated and published in one or more of the Nordic countries.
We would like to notify you that Nordbok's translation grant in general unfortunately does not cover non-fiction, the only exception being art- and cultural-historical works with a Nordic dimension.
As for the translation of fictional literature, you would need to find an interested publisher in the country/countries in question, to ensure the distribution of the book.
A contract with a publisher must be enclose!d in the application.
Our next application deadline for translation grants is October 1, and also for this, as for all Nordbok grants, applies that only applications written on Nordbok's application form will be accepted.

I am currently trying to find some people to write regular features for the
News Shopper website. I want the people to be as interesting as possible,
and you sound like the kind of person who could write some really good
articles for us.
Would you be interested in submitting a regular column discussing life in
Iceland and your views on life?
We currently have a man from Italy who writes for us, but he has not written

Helen C. Tooke a professor of English litterature at an Italian University (about my English):
It's really quaint, and very Anglo-Saxon. Also very good, with a very wide vocabulary.
I was wondering where you had learned such archaic and high-flown literary terms as the ones you incorporate.
The "magazine" you're writing for loves it too.
That's why they're printing it practically unedited.
It is lovely to hear the family stories of people whose culture you are unfamiliar with. I'll tell you some of mine.
My father was the penultimate of 27 children.
There was no money for him to go out to school for long, so he was apprenticed at age 14 to a panel beater (most unsuitable, as he was tiny and had to stand on 2 boxes to reach the bench he was supposed to work on).
The high spots of his career were 1) attempting to attend a course in panel beating, when he ended up being the teacher 2) designing the prototype of the steps for Concorde 3) designing a lorry that could keep 1,000 day-old chicks alive until their destination.
His father was an "artist", who designed beautiful furniture.
However, when he sold it, he tended to drink what he made, so his wife worked cleaning and washing on the side (with 27 kids).
I never knew him because he died of cancer at 49, but I remember my grandmother on my swing, saying that she was going to learn French and go to Paris.
She did.
Then the next year, she died.
My mother was sent out to work because her parents couldn't afford her school uniform any longer.
She entered the Civil Service ... and hated every moment of her job as a tax collector.
Her forebears designed and made clocks and footwear in Lllanidloes - and you can see the museum created in honour of my great-grandfather on the Llaniloes site (it's that wooden construction that crosses the road).
I did a degree in "Language" (linguistics, bee language, brain damage etc etc) so I am very interested in languages, and I can see Norse undertones in your expressions ...
Unfortunately, I only really know Latin-based languages, with the exception of English.
My Arabic, German and Swahili are only rudimental.
However, I am very attracted by runes - as by anything with spiritual connections.
I think your English is great.
Please don't change it.

I´m an Icelander who likes writing about whatever comes to my mind.
Through the years I´ve been writing all kinds of stories and articles, first in Icelandic and then translated it to English as well.
Last year I got the idea about "Netsaga.is", my own website where I could put all my writings for everybody to read and enjoy perhabs.
When it had been created I got the idea of giving others (the hobby-writers) a chance to put their stories, poems and articles on netsaga.is.
Since then many Icelanders have done just that.
I have translated most of it to English.
January 7. 2005 two articles came to me by email from an Indian journalist in New Delhi thus making him the first foreigner to have his writings on Netsaga.is
.I have always dreamed of doing something worthwhile to make people´s lives better.
I would like to develop Netsaga.is furthermore, establishing a website where people could read and write stories, poems and articles having
paid some fee, in a similar way as it is on Blogit.com.
On Blogit.com half of the paid fees goes to the owners, but the other half is devided between the authors (bloggers) according to how much each
one gets read.
On Netsaga.is the devision will be a lot different:
Half of the fees will go to the writers on the one hand, but on the other it would be devided between the writers and the translators of all the
languages, thus making it possible for all nations to take part in Netsaga.is, either as writers or readers.
My wish is that if every nation of the UN could and would want to exchange stories, poems and articles on the Internet we could strengthen the
understanding between people on this lovely Earth of ours, the tolerance and peace.
The other half of the fees would be devided between the management on the one hand, and UN on the other, perhabs some establishment like
UNICEF.
By participating in Netsaga.is, either as writers or readers people would be helping to improve the world at the same time as the writers would
get a chance to introduce themselves to the rest of the world and they would get some salary for their work.
The reason I´m sending this letter to the UN is that I would like to get its assistance in introducing Netsaga.is throughout the world.
